The Flax bush, or Harakeke as named by the Maori, is one of New Zealand’s most ancient plant species. Flax bushes often support a large community of animals, providing shelter and an abundant food source. Tui, bellbirds/korimako, saddlebacks/tieke, short tailed bats/Pakapeka, geckos and several types of insects enjoy nectar from the flax flower.
