About Filter Sleeve

Filter Sleeve is a tested and proven solution for protecting subsoil drains from sedimentation. Readily available, cost effective and proven to perform, Filter Sleeve is your first choice for protecting perforated pipe subsoil drains.

Manufactured as a three dimensional knitted fabric, Filter Sleeve comes in a seamless length to fit a large range of pipe sizes.

It works by trapping the sand particles and assisting the formation of a soil filter around the pipe.

Filter Sleeve is manufactured in New Zealand to strict quality control procedures, as the performance of the product is dependant on the accurate formation of the knit structure and pore sizes. Insist on Cirtex® Filter Sleeve for proven results.

Fit to the pipeline on site using Preloaded Applicators or purchase from leading pipe manufacturers pre-installed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Filter Sleeve?

It provides a filter for coarse silt/fine sandy particles which would ordinarily enter an unprotected subsoil drain.

It acts as a soil stabiliser to help support and maintain the surrounding soil and reduce the breakdown of that soil structure.

How does Filter Sleeve work?

Heavier and larger sand particles are trapped by the pores of the Filter Sleeve and bridge the fabric pores (as opposed to lodging in them as would ordinarily be expected).

The larger, irregular sand particles provide a further surface which can trap smaller (clay and silt) particles within their irregularities.

The air void created between the sleeve and the corrugated pipe helps to equalize pressure across the Filter Sleeve fabric and provides a space into which water can pass freely before entering the pipe.

Filter Sleeve helps to stabilise the surrounding soil by recreating a microscopic soil structure around the sleeve.

Does Filter Sleeve clog up?

No – assuming that the Filter Sleeve is correctly installed and backfilled, then Massey University research suggests that the permeability of the filter fabric is not significantly reduced over long periods of service.

When should I use Filter Sleeve?

To protect a punched subsoil drain that is being used in sand or sandy gravels. Filter Sleeve is an inexpensive insurance against failure should the contractor not achieve a perfect installation – 5-6% more expensive overall.

What should I backfill around the pipe?

Backfill around a subsoil drain and Filter Sleeve should be graded sand in compliance with Transit New Zealand specification TNZ f/5:2000. Feel free to call Cirtex 0800 247 839. Where sand is not readily or cheaply available, we suggest that a clay free, graded aggregate backfill such as builders mix, could be used subject to approval from a subsoil designer.
